A Greek city where people debated being and motion, overlooking the Cilento sea.
Elea was founded around 540 BC by Greek settlers from Phocaea, in Asia Minor. In Roman times it became known as Velia.
It was the home of the Eleatic school, with Parmenides and Zeno, which deeply influenced Western thought.
Today the archaeological park lets you walk the ancient paved streets up to Porta Rosa, one of the oldest known round arches in Italy.
